Calling ALL DJians!

Calling all DJians! I'm carrying out a survey on Nostalgia. This year, we want to produce a magazine of the best quality that caters to ALL of our readers. And in order for us to do that, we need to see it from the readers' perspectives.

So share your opinions and suggestions on how to make Nostalgia magazine a better one. Tell us what's hot and what's not about it. Enlighten us with the stuffs that you would like to see in this next edition.

You can drop a comment at this post. It's the year of revolution, people! Let's make the best out of it =)

the form 5 pages last year were very dull. hopefully u guys can come up with better design for that page since they are one of the most important pages of the mag for the seniors

Hmm.. add some comics? okay lame

i think it should be more humorous and fun. i love those nonsense things like asking a teacher when is her first kiss. and stuff.. more colours!!!!! more please a no no for the obituaries and email thing like last year.

have names under the class photo like two years back. i thought that was smart since we can stalk more ppl. jkjk. easier to recognize la

better if there is a joke section. i think there's about it. LOL

Bring back the 'karya murid' section. That particular section was missed out last year. Sometimes it's fun to read up on our students' creativity and it's the main outlet for us to express our creativity and individuality.

So I say, bring it back! :)

hi there I think the articles that are not about school events should be more interesting and out of the box also I think the whole mag should be coloured coz rite my cousin's school got color wan their mag

Umm,yeah I agree with DJian I used to rush to read the form five pages first because you could kinda imagine how your seniors/friends classmate's thought of them.

I liked that HALL OF FAME thing you guys did in '07! I think the fifth formers would like to leave their mark since it IS their last year.

You guys should also amp up on the surveys and maybe distribute them to more willing students (aka ME!) instead of just the monitors,b'cos trust me most of em are kinda lazy.
Surveys on current issues, hot topics..basically nothing to do with the political/economic status of M'sia because that bores!

OH AND FUNNY CAPTIONS ON PHOTOS!Seriosuly a funny caption will leave us-or maybe just me-smiling for days!

Basically anything to emphasize school spirit-DUH! cos that's what DJ's about!-

Maybe I read to many mags but it'll be cool if one of you got one of the students to actually go on a mission or something? and report about it? like an undercover reporter kinda thing? like maybe with the economical crisis-yeah I know you guys WILL talk about it-you could get a student to spend ONLY RM10 in a week and see how she/he survives.
Or something creative!
Like saying HI! to EVERYONE he/she see's for a week-you'd be surprise not many people even smile at mutual friends let alone strangers these days-and the feedback.

Uh if I think think about anymore I'll get back to you (:

GOSSIPS/RUMORS....

The more you know the less you feel :D

i'd agree with DJian n Daena about the form5 pages.

more fun articles would be great, and try not to thicken the magazine with such articles.

more photos and pictures especially, will brighten up the magazine even more.

and students' names below class photos, and add more humorous articles about students, teachers, and ofcours, smkdj.

that's what i think la.hehe.

hey i tot the form 5 pages done by the form5 ppl themselves, not the nostalgia team. And the reason so few pages coz no money T__T

Anonymous said...

haha daena you copying readers digest. but remember nostalgia is our school mag, not Readers Digest magazine or something =)

undercover reporting. :) i concur that. and im attracted to the idea of spending 10 bucks a week as a challenge. very mythbuster-y.

yeahh more about form5's n funny captions would be great

Yes CALVIN exactly!
Actually I was leaning towards more girly themes like "Can you live without your moisturiser!" or something cos, sorry anonymous I got that from mags like TEEN Vouge and Cosmo and Harpers not READERS DIGEST although I do read them religiously as I suscribe to them (:

But I don't think it'll be such a hit with the guys and plus I could live without my moisturiser no problemo so yeah.
Maybe since it's all about going GREEN as the new PINK.
Maybe like "CAN YOU SURVIVE WITHOUT TECHNOLOGY FOR AN ENTIRE WEEK?"
each contestant doesn't get to use an electronic device of the boards choice. cell phone,tv,iPod etc.

Or maybe songs like BANANA PANCAKES by JAck Johnson"on a rainy day" or something, promote Malaysian music scene!!!

the size of the book, make it like the 05 version, thicker n nicer

and then like get some comments la from the form 5, abt what they want to say abt their yrs in dj, then ask the juniors abt their opinions on the form5s ke.

make it even better than the '08 version plz.

please do not make the form 5 section like 08's. It was one of the most horrible and depressing things I have ever seen in a school magazine. It looked like everyone died and that was their obituary or something.

And I think the whole Hall Of Fame thingy is kinda nice but then again it's not exactly fair for everyone because let's face it, we know very well who will and will not make it into that section. It's kinda unfair that we always put the spotlight on these few more 'popular' students and the rest don't get their lil 5 minutes of fame or wtv you call it.

ANYWAY, actually to be frank, I don't really bother much bout the mag lah. Just make sure we all don't look like we died. SERIOUSLY.

I think hall of fame should be replaced with hall of popular people who either look damn fine or kiss some good ass in school to get a high post in something. Oh, and a colored magazine would be great ;)

1. Give us 100% creative control over our form 5 pages.

Seriously i have no idea why you guys made the format that way. Anyway it sucks so dont that. Go back to how it was and how its suppose to be. 100% Creative Control to the students.

2. Interviews!

Interviews with winners of MSSD or something like that. Because its always interesting to know someones story to success.

3. Have Standards!

Yes! Please for all that is good and sexy. Please have your writers write better reports on whatever article that you do. Have some quality in your english. Go Brit english! Not Msian english!

4. Have a "YOUR SAY" coloumn, article...whatever.

Okay. This is risky but since you mention this is the year of revolution. I say to you, YES! AGREED! So have an article about students opinions or suggestions on certain matters in school or about current issues. I mean come on I think it would be interesting to read about what a 14 year old would say about the status of our government's integrity.

5. COLOUR DAMN IT COLOUR!

Okay its a lil bit expensive and we're currently in recession. Nevertheless when the going gets tough the tough gets going! Or something like that. So get it in colour!

6. Dont have the hall of fame.

It's rather...biased. Popularity over true talents. Is just crack shit. Yeah. Screw the hall of fame.

7. DESIGN THE BACK COVER!!

YES DESIGN THE FREAKING BACK COVER AS WELL. No ad's on the back cover. Ad's in the nostalgia.

8. Alumni!

Oh btw I thought the article about our senior senior senior was just awesome. Make it a constant article in nostalgia. Its really cool. By the way thats the only good thing about last year's mag.

Thank you for all the great suggestions that have been pouring in. This year's editorial board has been working very hard to bring a more fresh, creative, interesting Nostalgia magazine.

We have already thought of a few great ideas that will make this year's edition very different from previous years. For a start, the board has decided to give 100% creative freedom to the form 5 pages. The only requirement we're going to set is the pages have to contain class photo and individual photos. But what you do with them, that's entirely up to the classes.

And IF the budget allows, we're gonna have a full-coloured magazine this year! *fingers crossed*

So, Djians, look out for the 'revolutionised' Nostalgia at the end of the year!

Cheers!

I simply find that the mag need more oomph, more "wow" appeal. I found the layouts and stuff were all over the place. Usually i think that magazines, or in this case, yearbooks should me more streamlined and appeal to the readers. Applying colours would do just that plus some professional layouts would step the quality up too.

In general of what i mean, the mag needs a TOTAL makeover for everything. Throw away that same stereotype that was practised for the past 26 years and start anew. New layouts, more colour, better photos, more interesting articles, and of course, fatter mag!

Good luck to the current team on making every DJian's expectations towards the magazine a reality.
